JOB OVERVIEW - Software Engineer

Grifols USA Hospital Division provides advanced solutions and cutting-edge technologies to enhance safety and efficacy in the hospital pharmacy, throughout the drug compounding process. Our products, capital equipment, software and devices are uniquely designed to improve institutional compliance with guidelines and regulations, in order to ensure high standards of quality and safety for both the pharmacy staff, and the patients served.

The Software Engineer supports the development and implementation of the Hospital Division's software technology. The position reports to the Hospital Division's Engineering Manager and will assist with proper product installation, implementation, troubleshooting, support and customer training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Support implementation projects of hospital division’s software products within the U.S. and Canada. This includes performing the physical installation of equipment, configuring and troubleshooting software, as well as conducting customer application training.

  2. Define development plan to implement different Grifols software technologies in conjunction with management team.

  3. Use training tools and technical documents to support customers on the use of our software systems. This includes identifying any possible software improvements.

  4. Document all activities of the implementation process.

  5. Ensure all objectives of the department and company are executed in a professional and timely manner, according to Grifols’ Standard Operating Procedures.

  6. Support the Hospital Division Sales network on software demonstrations via Skype or at customer sites to provide deeper knowledge and expertise.

  7. Assist Field Service Engineers as needed and train Call Center Technicians. Handle any escalations from Call Center Technicians.

  8. Troubleshoot technical problems.

  9. Occasionally participate in special assignments to develop service support requirements during commercialization of new software products. Roles may include “Product Champion” (representing technical expertise for a new product) and “Train the Trainer” (utilizing technical expertise to train other product specialist team members).

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Software Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of experience in software troubleshooting, configurations, and installations is required. IT Certification (CCNA, CCNP, and Microsoft) is preferred. Equivalency: Associate’s degree and 5years of experience or Master’s degree and 1 year of experience in the above may be considered.

  2. IT networking / configuration also required.

  3. Must have deep operational knowledge of SQL and IIS. Other technical skills include proficiency in: Windows Operating Systems / Servers, Intel based PC installation and configuration, wireless communication applications, and Microsoft Suite.

  4. Must be able to demonstrate ability to mentor and coach other employees.

  5. Must be able to work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues, while demonstrating trustworthiness.

  6. Must be a proactive team player and demonstrate drive to accomplish assigned goals and tasks.

  7. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel at all levels.

  8. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  9. 50-70% travel required. Ability to work weekends and/or varied work hours depending on pharmacy needs, within a 40 hour work week.

  10. Will be on an on-call rotation to answer technical and service questions.

  11. Must have valid driver’s license.


Work is performed in an office and Hospital Pharmacy setting. May come in contact with infectious or chemical agents and required to follow same precautions as Pharmacy staff, and as directed by customer’s institution. Work requires lifting up to 50 lbs, and possibility of working in small/confined spaces in order to service or install instrument and peripheral components. Must have ability to stand for extended periods - up to four (4) hours at a time, and manual dexterity to perform all job functions. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences.
