Job Summary

Promotes faculty and student’s collaborations and researches their future pedagogical needs. Performs responsibility of OIT liaison. Assists with departmental inventory and IT procurements. Backup for overseeing daily coordination and functioning of departmental computer labs and testing centers. Provides technical advice, guidance and informal training to customers using hardware and software programs. Maintains the working order of departmental and labs equipment and supplies, which may include troubleshooting both hardware and software and making appropriate recommendations regarding repair. Creates and deploys computer lab images and assesses the need for hardware upgrades and makes purchase decisions of computer hardware and software and printers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Works in partnership with faculty, departments, and administrators to promote effective teaching strategies and improve student learning outcomes in face-to-face, blended, and online learning environments that utilize technology in a significant way. Assists faculty with course design, course development, learning objectives, classroom management, active learning, assessment methods, incorporating diversity, and other topics related to university teaching. Installs software, Diagnose and perform intermediate to advanced repair of personal computing hardware, software, network issues and ensure customer requests are handled in a professional and timely manner. Maintain computer security and encryption. Maintains departmental web presence and collaboration sites.

  2. Manage day-to-day student learning space operations. Maintain computer labs/call center / Testing center hardware and software. Diagnose and perform basic to advance repairs of Lab computers and printers. Maintain software security using Web Jet admin. Handle ITSM logs and resolve Hardware / Software issues. Manage student assistants – Hire / Terminate / Train student workers and responsible for payroll and scheduling. Utilizes tools like TimePro and UTShare.

  3. General Duties: a. Maintaining Labs and Departmental inventory: Hardware, Software and supply i.e. papers cartridges, supplies etc. b. Utilize server-based computer-management consoles in daily work c. Backup for Encryption room d. Assist with Scantron Scanning services e. Assists with IT procurement and budget planning f. Assists with testing of hardware, software and images

  4. Performing Other Duties

Required Qualifications

Associate’s Degree in related field and one years of related computing work experience; or the equivalent experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install and configure desktop computer hardware and software. Ability to install and configure basic data communications and or telecommunications hardware with some supervision with little supervision. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Must be able to obtain Apple certification within 6 months. Must be able to obtain Dell certification within 6 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field or equivalent practical experience. Practical work experience with Microsoft Windows 7 and above OS and Applications, and Mac OS 10.X and Applications. Practical work experience in repairing PCs, Macs, Printers, and network connection issues. Excellent customer service and phone skills. Experience with web development tools used to create, maintain, and update websites. A+, Dell, Apple, HP, and Microsoft certifications a plus. This position requires extensive management skills and computer experience. Must have knowledge of computer software and hardware commonly used in the computer lab including operating systems and troubleshooting/hardware maintenance software. As the needs of the student population vary and are constantly changing, analytical and creative abilities are essential for this position. Ability to train and supervise student employees. The ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing are needed.
